MESSAGE FROM JILL POLLEY - ECWBA PATRON'S DAY

This will be held on FRIDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER 2022 at 1:00 for 1.30pm.

VENUES ARE RUNWELL HOSPITAL AND MALDON.

To date, Sheila Brickel has only received 13 names of ladies wishing to play on Patrons' Day, across the 2 venues. This day is a fun afternoon of bowls where you play 3 sessions of 6 ends. Rinks and positions are drawn out of the hat and players keep their own score card. The player across the 2 venues with the overall highest shot difference will hold the Patrons' Trophy for a year. This trophy is presented at the annual county luncheon in October. The dress code is whites and a meal is served after the games.

The application form has been emailed to clubs and is also available through the website .docx .pdf

The closing date for applications has been extended to Wednesday 31st August, so please support this event, as it is in danger of being cancelled. This would be a shame. Come on Ladies - return your form to Sheila Brickel as soon as possible.

Many thanks,

Jill

Hon. Sec. ECWBA

MESSAGE FROM JILL POLLEY FINALS DAY - 30th JULY

Unfortunately Colleen Moss is very unwell with Covid and is still testing positive after more than a week. As a result the final of the County Pairs will not be played on Finals Day. This has been postponed until Thursday 11th August 2022 at 2pm at Upminster B.C.

All other matches are as scheduled for Saturday 30th July 2022. The programme for which may be found here .doc .pdf

It would be lovely to have supporters in attendance at the finals to add to the atmosphere which I am sure can rival the Commonwealth Games.

I look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

URGENT MESSAGE FROM JILL POLLEY - RED ALERT

Since the Red Warning for Extreme Heat was announced last week I have been in constant touch with our 4 Area Secretaries. It was agreed that it may not be wise to play the 1st round of the Albert Crabb competition on Monday 18th July 2022, as scheduled. It isn't possible to simply move the rounds onto the next dates because the final needs to be played on the 20th August. It has therefore been agreed that the clubs involved may play the 1st round, by mutual agreement, on any date up to and including Saturday 23rd July 2022. This flexibility has been given because I am fully aware that everyone has other commitments. The Area Secretaries have been in contact with the clubs concerned. As different problems have arisen they have been dealt with by the Area Secretaries and I thank them sincerely for the extra hours of work that this has entailed. Let me assure you that we are all working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that the competitions continue to be conducted both Fairly and Safely.

I am getting fed up with being accused of not having the welfare of our ladies in mind and I can assure you that nothing is further from the truth. You need broad shoulders to do my job, but for once I am speaking out. Ladies, please try to see the bigger picture and consider the knock-on effect of what you say and do

Ladies need to listen to OUR messages as the ECWBA Executive conducts our affairs differently to the Men's Association

Yours sincerely,

Jill Polley

Hon. Secretary and Hon. Competition Secretary E.C.W.B.A.

BOWLS ENGLAND HANDBOOKS

The disappointing news from Bowls England is that once again they are not issuing a printed year book. Apparently it will be available on line. Many clubs made payments of £4.50 for the 2021 edition, which were rolled over to 2022. This news means that refunds will have to be made. Given the amount of administration work to send refunds to clubs, we are asking nicely if your club would consider not requesting a refund, but will donate this amount to the ECWBA?

Please let Jenny Hyland know your decision to Jenny.Hyland@sky.com by return. If you require a refund, cheques will be issued and made available for collection at the April Council Meeting.

Many thanks and I send my best wishes for 2022 to you all.

Kind regards, Jill

Hon. Sec. ECWBA
